Healthy Orange Julius Popsicles
So many grocery store popsicles are just sugar water, and I really wanted to make some popsicles for my kids (and, quite frankly, me!) that I could rely to fill us up and cool us down. This recipe (in my new favorite popsicle molds) meets all of our needs – a sweet creamy treat, full of probiotic rich raw and cultured dairy and a serving of fruit from 100% fruit juice.
They keep us hydrated and nourished all year long, with no added sugar!

My Favorite Popsicle Molds
We’ve tried out a lot of popsicle molds over the years, and they’ve either been too small, too messy or too brittle. All of our hard plastic ones have cracked after an inevitable drop onto the floor when the kids pull them out of the freezer and underestimate how cold they are! I recently discovered these awesome silicone molds: Silicone Drip-Free Popsicle Holder With Straw

I like them because they are:
- Easy to fill
- Easy to transfer into the freezer without leaking
- Easy to remove, after running under warm water for a little bit
- Easy to clean
- Unbreakable
- Easy to hold and eat
- Catch all the drips
- Have a built in straw!!
There is one other set I like for babies: The Nuby Garden Fresh Fruitsicle Frozen Pop Tray
I like them because they are:
- Easy to fill
- Easy to transfer into the freezer without leaking
- Easy to remove, after running under warm water for a little bit
- Easy to clean
- Easy for tiny hands to hold and lick
- Catch most drips
- Small enough to finish quickly
We even used these tiny ones when my babies were teething. We froze breastmilk into them, and the cold was great for soothing sore gums!
There are a couple of other options that we like. We still use this Ice Lolly Pop Mold Popsicle Maker With Straw, but the plastic is starting to crack after a couple falls from tiny hands. My kids also love these Zoku Easy-Release Silicone Ring Pop Molds, but they go for the bigger popsicles more often. But they are nice for little hands to hold!

What You’ll Need For Healthy Orange Julius Popsicles
- Orange juice concentrate – My recipe uses a whole can, to simplify things, and because my two kids eat them so fast. Also, using concentrate allows me to mix it with milk instead of water to make these popsicles extra satisfying.
- Pastured Egg yolks – These are optional and totally up to your personal preferences. I like to add raw egg yolks to recipes whenever I can, but only if they are from farmers I know personally, to be sure the care of the chickens and eggs are optimal. They completely disappear in these popsicles and I love that we benefit from the nutritional boost! There’s some debate as to whether raw egg whites are beneficial at all. This article from National Institutes of Health says that avadin, a component in raw egg whites interferes with biotin absorption. Cooking prevents this.
- Cream – This will add more richness, and the finished product will be more creamy and less icy.
- Milk – We’re lucky enough to be a part of a raw milk buying group that gets it from a local farm. But any milk will do. Use this instead of water when reconstituting your concentrate! It makes the popsicles rich and creamy and much more nutritious.
- Milk kefir or yogurt – This add a dose of healthy probiotics to these popsicles.
- Vanilla – I make my own, and you can too! It so easy. The instructions are coming soon!
- Pastured, grass-fed collagen peptides – Again, I try to add this protein to any recipe I can. It’s important for healthy joints, skin, bones, muscles, and more.

How To Make Healthy Orange Julius Popsicles
- Empty contents of orange juice concentrate into a blender.
- Add egg yolks, cream and milk kefir or yogurt to the blender.
- Add milk to the blender (fill up the juice can 2 times to reach approximately 3 cups!).
- Add vanilla and collagen peptides.
- Blend on low, and gradually increase speed until all ingredients are incorporated. Try to limit the production of foam on top.

- Pour into empty popsicle molds. I like to set them all on a baking sheet to make it easy to transfer to the freezer.
- Freeze for at least 5 hours.

- Enjoy!!

FAQs
Can I drink this as a fresh smoothie?
Yes! My kids always want a glass of it fresh before I pour the rest into popsicle molds.
Can I use regular oranges instead of orange juice?
Actually, for this recipe, the orange juice concentrate is diluted with raw milk which is what makes these so creamy and nourishing. If you used regular oranges, the flavor would be diluted by the milk. So, no, not for this recipe, unless you want that diluted flavor.
Can I use yogurt instead of milk kefir?
Absolutely! It would be a straight substitution, so just use the same amount.
Do I need a high-speed blender to make these?
No, definitely not. It’s a very liquid mix, so you could be do it with an immersion blender, or probably even a whisk in a big bowl!
Can I add other fruits like mango or pineapple?
That would be yummy! Then, you might want to use a high powered blender to make sure they get really blended in.
How would I make these dairy-free?
If you substituted all the dairy products for plant based versions like coconut milk and coconut yogurt, I think it would still work and make it taste a little tropical!
